I am David Miller, a multidisciplinary artist and founder of Primordial Creative, a Long Beach production studio specializing in animated documentaries, art films, photography, comics, and sound design.
Twenty years as a behavioral social worker taught me to listen to people on the margins - the outcasts, the traumatized, the ones building imagined worlds to survive. That's whose stories I tell. My work explores wounded souls and liminal spaces through a gothic humanist lens, mixing mythology with Americana, pop culture with archival material, beauty with roughness.
The aesthetic is constant - ethereal, pop-surrealist noir - while the medium shifts based on what the story needs. Photography becomes animation becomes film becomes comics. I shoot with models who become voices and on-screen talent. I use wrong tools for the job because authenticity beats polish. Everything feeds everything else: behind-the-scenes becomes teaching content, animation stills become gallery prints, model shoots generate narrative material.
I authored the first guide to Procreate Dreams and teach collage filmmaking through online courses and workshops.
